Let’s Be Reasonable

Some people think the constitution is the foundation of our democracy, but the constitution relies on an implicit understanding that the people interpreting it are reasonable and behave as such. If we don’t have a reasonable foundation, our constitution’s value is severely diminished and our country’s future uncertain. If we are to make progress in this country, it must be based on a foundation of reasonable people.

It is our sincere hope that we can help build and support a movement to rebuild the reasonable foundation of our country. This endeavor will require the support of Americans from all walks of life and with all different types of beliefs. Regardless of our differences, the vast majority of Americans are good people, capable of reasonable compromise, who would be much happier living in peace with one another.

We hope you will support this movement in any way you can. The most important thing you can do is be reasonable yourself. Give yourself a really honest look and consider whether the side you’ve been fighting on is really so great and the other side so horrible. Don’t settle for the lesser of two evils. Talk honestly with your friends and family. Consider giving strangers who disagree with you the same benefit of the doubt you’d give a loved one. If we don’t get out and talk to one another, and do it with sincerity and kindness, the divide in our country will only widen.
